Experiment: Last.fm + YouTube API’s =  SimilarSounds.com

I’ve been curious about the possibilities of leveraging public API’s to create applications, so I decided to create a small application to make my life easier.

How it was built

Similar Sounds leverages the YouTube API and the Last.fm API to provide an easy way to discover new artists similar to ones I already like.

Future Plans

The setup is pretty basic at this point, but I have some plans for the future including:

• YouTube playlist generation for continuous play through the videos found
• iTunes links direct to artists to purchase music on the spot
• Suggested search results, possibly using the Google Suggest API
• Remove autoplay for mobile users and enhance the UI, possibly with jQuery Mobile
